My first stab at comedy. Enjoy the train wreck.

I was cleaning out my closet and I found this gem. March 12th 2008 was the first time I ever stepped on stage and I found the video evidence. This is terrible. But it shows how much I have improved over the years. This clip will always hold a special place in my heart. I spent a month writing jokes and rehearsing. I bought a mic stand and set it up in our bed room just so I could get comfortable with it. I even had a camera set-up in the bed room so I could record it. Sometimes it was difficult to explain to people why I had a mic stand, microphone, camera, and a tripod in my bedroom. My poor wife has gone through a lot to support my habits.

One of the things I want to do with this blog is talk a little bit about the jokes I have written and how they came to be. So, every now and then I am going to post a clip of me performing a joke and then talk about its birth, life, and death. Hopefully death because some of these jokes need to be laid to rest.

Below is a clip from my comedy album "Live at Trolley". This joke was one of the first jokes I ever wrote. I wrote it about 6 months into my attempts at becoming a comedian. The title is called "Barbie".

I, like so many other young boys, found it very interesting to play with our sisters Barbies. One of the first things you would do is undress her just to be disappointed to find out she had no nipples or anything else that had anything to do with a real woman's anatomy. So I thought it would be funny if that truly was the only way you knew what a naked woman looked like and what confusion that would cause when you finally saw a real woman with no clothes.

Where's the Punch?
Episode 4 (Explicit)
A cough and a tampon walk into a bathroom.

On this episode we have the delightful honor of featuring Collen Waters and Melissa Merlot. As always I am joined by by good friend and co-host Ben Fuller. Be warned, Collen drops F bombs like a B52 over Germany. We talk about Cocaine filled tampons, small men who cough like monsters, and why women love to remodel men. This episode was recorded at The Complex in SLC Utah. They have a weekly comedy showcase called Comedy Roadkill that is followed up with an open mic. You can get more information at http://www.thecomplexslc.com/

We did something different on this episode. What we did was talk about a joke that each of us were planning to perform that night, we talk a bit about writing the joke and we inserted the performed joke into the podcast. It helps give you an idea of how a comic comes up with a joke and some of the madness that happens during the writing and performing process. Let me know what you think.
